From the Teapot Dome Scandal 2009
Hola Chicas!

Another great day of rugby today. Dayton arrived in Marion for the Teapot Dome tournament this morning going with a Mexican fiesta theme. The team was led by Coach Kraemer, fashionably sporting a Mexico home jersey, and Coach Borg, who never met a burrito he didn't like.

The weather was perfect for rugby, although several days of rain made for wet and mudy conditions on the field as we lined up to play Oberlin. We got off to a slow start as Grubb lost the coin toss.

Dayton came out aggressively, moving the ball well and spending most of the time on the attack. Our scrums were not ideal, as we sometimes were so high that I'm surprised we didn't need oxygen, and the rucking was so-so, but the loose play was terriffic. It turned out to be the Day of the Beaver as Gen scored four tries. Mo also scored, and Jen made a conversion. Once again, Stox did most of the work and did none of the scoring.

It was a great team effort as we worked together on the field and on the sideline passing baby Ronan from player to player. No one asked me to watch Ronan--I'm great with kids. What the hell? Final Dayton 27:0 Oberlin.

One hour break and then we were in the championship match against Cincinnati. It was great to see many friends and former teammates from Cincy, but we went into the match with the (VERY MISTAKEN) impression that we were overmatched. This led to a very slow start. Despite improved scrumming and rucking, at half we were down 0-10.

Intensity improved in the second half but we still allowed Cincy to be the aggressor for most of the half. We suffered a big blow when Lauren went out with an ankle injury, but Misty did a great job filling in as our jumper. We gave up one more score before finally finishing off an attack with Susie scoring, conversion by Jen. Final Dayton 7:17 Cincinnati.
